Home plate umpire Jeremie Rehak was forced to leave Sunday’s game between the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics after being struck in the mask by a foul ball. The incident occurred during the bottom of the fifth inning, halting play briefly.
The injury happened with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning when A's outfielder Henry Bolte fouled off a pitch thrown by Keider Montero. According to reports, the ball hit Rehak “squarely in the mask,” dislodging it from his head.
Rehak immediately left the game following the incident.
