A group of 17 scholars – including a Homerist, an archaeologist, and even a dentist – gathered after attending a Thursday night showing of Nolan's "The Odyssey" to analyze the film. The gathering mirrored centuries of scholarly tradition surrounding Homer’s original work, as they spent the evening debating its merits and interpretations.
Joel P. Christensen stated, “We had a really robust debate.” This suggests that Nolan’s adaptation sparked significant discussion amongst experts familiar with the source material, continuing a long history of analysis dating back nearly 3,000 years to the original poem itself.
