NBC Sports Philadelphia is planning to add a courtside voice to its coverage of the Philadelphia Sixers basketball team, ahead of LeBron James’s arrival this season. The network believes an additional on-court perspective will enhance broadcasts.
The decision comes as the network prepares for increased interest in the Sixers due to the recent signing of LeBron James. Alexandra Matcham, NBC Sports Philadelphia vice president of content, told *The Philadelphia Inquirer* that the network is budgeting for the new role.
Matcham explained the reasoning behind the addition: “I think you need a voice on the court where Alaa [Abdelnaby] and Kate [Scott] can’t be to give us insight, do pre-…”, indicating the goal is to provide viewers with more comprehensive coverage and analysis during games. The network has not yet announced who will fill the courtside position or when the new voice will debut.
