Phoenix Mercury head coach Sandy Brondello has been suspended following a remark about Angel Reese. Former player Temi Fagbenle is defending Brondello and invoked Caitlin Clark in her statement.
Temi Fagbenle, a former teammate of Caitlin Clark, has come to the defense of Phoenix Mercury head coach Sandy Brondello after Brondello received a suspension from the WNBA. The suspension stems from Brondello’s comment referring to Angel Reese as a “protected species.”
According to Fox News Digital, Fagbenle publicly supported Brondello, questioning the league's decision. She stated, "I think it’s ridiculous. I think Sandy is an amazing coach and person. It’s just…it feels like everything is so sensitive right now."
Fagbenle further connected the situation to the attention surrounding Caitlin Clark, saying, “Like, we were all talking about how much attention Caitlin was getting, and then anything that happens with her or around her gets magnified. I think this is just another example of that.” The core issue appears to be a disagreement over whether Brondello’s comment warranted disciplinary action from the WNBA.
