Nirmal Purja, a celebrated British-Nepali mountaineer known for his appearance in the Netflix documentary ‘14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible,’ died on Thursday, July 30th, in an avalanche while climbing Broad Peak in Pakistan. He was 43 years old and one of ten fatalities in the tragic incident.
Purja’s company, Elite Expeditions, confirmed his death. The avalanche struck Broad Peak, a notoriously challenging mountain for climbers. Purja had gained international recognition for his project to summit all fourteen of the world’s “8-thousanders” – mountains exceeding 8,000 meters in height – in a single season.
The Netflix documentary ‘14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible,’ released in 2021, chronicled Purja's ambitious and record-breaking endeavor.
