Tsui Hark’s ‘Peking Opera Blues’ Restored for Shanghai Film Festival

Tsui Hark's classic film "Peking Opera Blues" has returned to the big screen in a newly restored format, marking a significant event at the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival. The remastered version of the movie was screened as part of the festival's lineup, offering audiences a chance to experience the cinematic work with enhanced technical quality.

The restoration project utilized advanced technology, presenting the film in 4K resolution with Dolby Atmos sound. This high-fidelity presentation aims to preserve the visual and auditory integrity of the original production while meeting modern screening standards. The initiative was supported by a partnership between the festival organizers and Bvlgari, the Italian jeweler. Bvlgari backed the restoration project in collaboration with the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF). The technical work of restoring the film was carried out by L’Immagine Ritrovata, a renowned film archive based in Bologna, Italy. Known for its expertise in film conservation, the archive played a crucial role in bringing the restored version to life. Their involvement ensures that the restoration adheres to professional archival standards.
