Russian Missile and Drone Attacks on Ukrainian Cities Kill at Least 11

Russian forces carried out a large-scale missile and drone attack on multiple Ukrainian cities overnight, killing at least 11 people and wounding more than 100, according to Ukrainian authorities. The attacks struck major urban centers including Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv, damaging residential buildings and civilian infrastructure and trapping people beneath rubble.

Ukraine's air force stated that Russia launched 656 drones and 73 missiles overnight, according to Al Jazeera. Politico EU reported that Moscow launched 650 drones and 73 cruise missiles in what it described as a fresh nighttime offensive that caused significant damage in Kyiv.

The BBC reported at least 13 people killed, while Politico EU and Al Jazeera reported at least 12 people killed. Bloomberg reported that four of those killed were in Kyiv.

Injuries numbered in the dozens, with France24 reporting more than 100 people wounded. The Guardian reported that dozens were injured and people remained trapped under rubble of fallen buildings. The BBC reported that rescuers were racing to find people feared trapped beneath rubble after the overnight attack.

The attacks caused significant damage across multiple locations. NPR reported that residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged in eight of Kyiv's districts. Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv were among the hardest-hit cities, according to France24. The Guardian reported that Russian air raids targeted major Ukrainian centers including Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv.

CBS News reported that the strikes occurred days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Moscow was preparing a "massive new strike."

Ukrainian authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage and casualties as rescue operations remain underway.
