Producers Reflect on 18-Year Journey to ‘Masters of the Universe’ Release
The journey to bring 'Masters of the Universe' to the screen has been a protracted one, spanning nearly two decades. During a recent appearance on Deadline's Crew Call Podcast, titled 'The Long & Winding Road To Castle Grayskull,' producer Jason Blumenthal of Escape Artists discussed the extensive timeline. He highlighted the personal magnitude of the delay by comparing the production schedule to his family life.
"My 22 year-old daughter just graduated college and my 18-year old film is about to open Friday," Blumenthal told Deadline. "That’s just hard math."
In addition to the specific timeline for 'Masters of the Universe,' Blumenthal elaborated on the recent workload he and his team have undertaken. He described the past year as their busiest period ever, involving work on multiple distinct projects. The producer listed 'DTF St. Louis,' 'Voicemail for Isabelle,' 'David O. Russell’s Madden,' and 'the Sorkin' project as part of their recent development and production slate. The discussion underscored the endurance required to shepherd a major film project to completion over such a long period.
