NASA Schedules Low-Altitude Research Flights Over Houston

NASA has announced that it will conduct a series of low-altitude flights near Houston in support of an educational and scientific initiative. The operations will be based out of Ellington Field in Houston and involve a fleet of five research aircraft. These flights are scheduled to take place over a ten-day period, beginning on Wednesday, June 3, and concluding on Saturday, June 13.

The mission is designed to support the Student Airborne Research Program (SARP). As part of the research activities, select maneuvers will be conducted at low altitudes over the Houston area. Local residents may observe these aircraft as they execute their assigned flight paths.

To gather the necessary data, pilots will fly remote sensing payloads using specific flight patterns. The operations will utilize raster patterns, defined as parallel back-and-forth lines, to ensure systematic coverage of the target areas. The instruments flown on these aircraft could help advance the research objectives of the program.
