Curiosity Rover Completes 47th Drill at Campo Marte

NASA’s Curiosity rover has successfully completed its 47th drilling operation, known as “Campo Marte.” The update was detailed in the Curiosity Blog covering Sols 4908-4912. The report was authored by Susanne P. Schwenzer, a Professor of Planetary Mineralogy at The Open University in the UK, with an Earth planning date of Friday, May 29, 2026.

Drilling operations require the rover to remain stationary. Schwenzer noted that “Drilling always keeps the rover in place for a little while, and our 47th successful drill, ‘Campo Marte,’ was no exception.” While the rover was positioned for this activity, the mission team utilized the time effectively to conduct further work. Schwenzer stated, “The team used the time wisely and on top of the drilling, we also” engaged in additional planning and activities before moving on from the location.
